2020 Big Book Summer Challenge

Book by Book is hosting the 2020 Big Book Challenge, and I've got some chunksters on my list for summer. Hopefully this will keep me accountable.

The Details:
  • Anything 400+ pages qualifies as a big book.
  • Challenge runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
  • Choose one or more book(s) to participate.
  • Sign up on Book by Book blog post or Goodreads group.
  • Write a kick off post and wrap up post at the end.
  • Write progress posts or reviews of books you've read, if you like.

Hey, and there's an opportunity to win a BIG BOOK! Yay!

Use #BigBookSummer on social media. For more info, visit Book by Book.

Here are the chunksters I'm reading or hoping to read this summer:

Brown: Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee [445]
Haley: Roots: The Saga of An American Family [888]
Wells: Crusade for Justice: the Autobiography of Ida B. Wells [419]
Bergreen: Over the Edge of the World: Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe [414]
Dinesen: Out of Africa and Shadows on the Grass [462]
Bontë: Tenant of Wildfell Hall [489]
Collins: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes [517]

I'm already reading the first three on the list, and I recently added Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.  I'm off to a good, I hope this momentum keeps up.

Welcome, Ruth, to the 2020 Big Book Summer Reading Challenge! I;m so glad you decided to join the fun this year!

Wow, you have an awesome stack of Big Books to choose from! I've never read any of them, though I see several that are also on my TBR list. And I have Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes on audio lined up for my Big Book Summer, also!

Remember you can stop by the challenge page any time to add a link to a Big Book review or an update on the challenge (the 2nd links list).

Enjoy your Big Books this summer -

I haven't read Roots and I only saw the movie Out of Africa, so I'll be interested in your reviews. Looks like a full summer! Hope everything's well?

SHARON: The movie OOA is nothing like the book, which was a bummer bc I found the film quite memorable for the relationship aspect. But I'll give it another try w/ a different approach.

I read Roots years ago, after seeing the original TV mini series. It's long but a really fast read. I haven't seen the recent remake but I've heard that's also good. I also really liked The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Good luck with your Big Book summer!

KAREN: Yes, Roots is super easy reading, though I should be reading faster. I cannot wait to see the mini series, either one.
