Chapter XLVIII
In the middle of the night, Doña Rodriquez visits Don
Quixote and tells him about a daughter she has who is in love with a young man
who had promised to marry her but has since broken his promise, and that her entreaties
to the duke go unheard. Next she begins
to tell something strange and personal about the duchess when suddenly someone
enters the room, attacks the duenna, spanks her bottom, does the same to poor
Don Quixote sitting innocently on his bed, and then flees the room; it is
unknown who it is because the room is dark.
